About The Film

For centuries, Indigenous weaving communities in Oaxaca, Mexico have carried history, identity, and ancestral knowledge through cloth. Woven Voices: Preserving Beauty and Tradition in Mexico follows Mixteca communities in Oaxaca’s Costa Chica region, where women weavers and elder dyers continue traditions rooted in balance with nature, communal responsibility, and cultural continuity. Through intimate observational storytelling, the film captures handwoven textiles, sustainable dyeing practices, daily life, and vibrant communal celebrations. As modernization and environmental pressures threaten these traditions, the documentary becomes a portrait of resilience, creativity, and the enduring connection between people, craft, and heritage across generations.
